Adaware, a product from cybersecurity provider Lavasoft, (formerly known as Ad-Aware), is designed to stop the kinds of malware and privacy infringements of which the majority of users are unaware. It includes programs that alter your surfing patterns, courses that alter the start page of your browser and applications that display irritating ads at the most inconvenient times. This free application comes with many features that will boost your device's security and ensure it runs smoothly.

In our tests, adaware was able to detect most of the malware we put at it. It had difficulty removing some malware, however. The program does include a number of helpful extras like a privacy monitor, an adaware registry scanner, file shredder and advanced network monitoring. Adaware doesn't provide as much protection as the best antivirus software.

Adaware's previous participation in AV Test lab tests resulted in a blockage of only 95. The threat rate was 4% for 0-day threats and 97% of known threats. These aren't terrible scores, but they certainly don't compare to the top security suites accomplish.
